May 8, 2013 ~ We headed down to Children's Hospital today for some testing, Sullivan's thyroid has been testing 'off' in his normal newborn blood screens, so our pediatrician wanted us to see an endocrinologist.
He slept the whole way down! Phew :)
I had to wake him up to get his IV :(
The nurses were so kind...but it still took THREE tries and lots of tears (from baby and mom) to get him all ready to go.
"Recovering" while we wait for the radioactive tracer to work it's way through his system.
The cosmic zebras playing soccer in space
Our tech- she was SO nice and informative. Children's has some of the best employees!
Snug as a bug in a rug...and super content. He ended up sleeping through the whole scan.
He literally slept through his diaper change, he was that passed out.
Lunch break at The Ram!! We needed a drink and food!
Sully slept through lunch too!
We finished off with a little treat!
Back for an ultrasound...Daddy kisses!
We had to keep his neck tipped back, it was awkward!
And tiring so we took a break:)
This room's decor is dancing pianist giraffes.
Children's utilizes so much neat technology- some of it is in their name tags which have time sensitive ink on them and actually "expire".
We got lucky and stopped by a Starbucks on the way home...during happy hour! Half off fraps :)
It was a LONG and emotionally stressful day. Finding out your baby is sick but not knowing anything is nerve racking. We found out that Sullivan does in fact have a thyroid and after meeting with the endocrinologist a week later, we found out that he will be on meds for at least the next 3 years because thyroid hormone is imperative to mental and physical development. When he is 3, we'll be able to do a trial with him to see if his thyroid has started working. Until then we get to crush a pill in water/milk and feed it to Sully everyday.
